WHAT'S COMING UP?

SOCIAL OUTING

On Saturday 11th April (during school holidays) our next Social outing will be to the

Maitland Gaol.

This will be an interesting and thought provoking experience. Built of local Morpeth and Farley sandstone and first opened in 1848, this gaol was home to many hardened criminals, including the infamous Darcy Dugan and later, Ivan Milat (after the Belanglo State Forest murders). However, due to community concerns and the increasing cost of maintaining an antiquated establishment, the gaol was finally closed in 1998. Now Heritage listed, it is open to the public for various tours, including a torchlight tour and sleepover (if you're game!).

Our timetable (To Be Confirmed) will be as follows;

Meet: Blackbird Artisan Bakery, Maitland Gaol

Time: 10.00am

Morning Tea: 10.00am-10.45am

Guided Tour: 11.00am-12.30pm

Cost: M/Tea - own selection and cost

Tour - $25.00 per person

We expect our (general public) tour will be headed by an Ex-Warder and numbers are limited. Once our own group reaches 20 or more, the Gaol will have to arrange a separate tour at another time, as there would be too many with the general public numbers for a regular scheduled tour. Either way, we will need to know numbers early so the tour date and time can be changed if required, as well as notifying the Bakery.

Car-pooling can be arranged, while parking is available in John Street, the Gaol car park and behind the Courthouse (opposite).

Please click here to download the attendance form, complete all details and submit by Thursday 26th March and

include your payment details (for the Tour only) by clicking here. We apologise for the short notice - however, we have to abide by the gaol's terms and conditions.

Meantime, Click HERE to have a look at the Maitland Gaol Website for an insight.

Training

ComputerPals Mission

Our mission is to educate seniors in the use of computers as a way of enriching their lives and making them more self-reliant.

We bridge the generation gap and assist seniors to find ways to benefit the community through their collective experience and knowledge.

ComputerPals Training Courses

Classes are conducted on Tuesday - Thursdays in school terms. They are generally of one and a half hours (sometimes over 5 weeks, or 3 hour courses, one-off courses may also run on Fridays. Every Monday morning is a closed session devoted to equipment maintenance. Monday afternoons host meetings of Committee, "Train the Trainer" sessions, or our special interest groups - Digipals, Writerpals, Geneapals. Tabpals meet on a Friday afternoon (see the calendar for actual times and dates).

As well as our computing sessions and meetings, we arrange social outings for our members.

We have developed training courses for our Senior Citizens so that they can learn about computers without feeling under pressure to keep up with the "youngsters". Membership is open to Novocastrian residents over the age of 55 years, as well as residents of nearby Local Council areas.

Who Provides Our Training?

Tutoring is provided by a band of volunteers, prepared to share their knowledge and give their time, so that we can provide training at minimum cost.

Being a member of ASCCA ( Australian Seniors Computer Clubs Association ), we have access to ASCCA's resources and links to other Seniors' Computing Clubs throughout Australia.

If you would like to become involved as a tutor, or if you know someone who has the skills but is not yet a member, please contact our Tutor Co-ordinator.
